HTML emails in Monday CRM – the good, the bad & the ugly

Short version

  • You can only send HTML emails from Monday in the mass email feature in Monday CRM

  • You can’t use HTML for one-off emails or automated emails

  • You can’t save the HTML email as a template in Monday

  • No visual email builder in Monday that makes it easy to compose HTML emails – you need to use a third party HTML email builder then copy the HTML into Monday every time you want to send a mass email

  • Depending upon which tool you use to create the HTML email (eg Mailchimp paid plan) you can probably automatically customise the HTML email but you still wouldn’t be able to just copy that HTML code into Monday, so to personalise you would need to customise each HTML email in your third party one-by-one and paste them one-by-one into Monday.

In short, HTML emails in Monday are practically pointless until Monday improves the functionality.

More from other post

“Well now, pretty emails? Yes please! monday keeps extolling the virtues of the HTML editor in Emails & Activities, but how do we use it? There is a button, but it doesn’t magically make the HTML version happen 😭 Any ideas? aka solutions?”

The short version is this; at this stage there is no HTML email builder or preview function in Monday.  So, unless you eat, sleep and breathe HTML (not I), you will need to Google “free HTML email builder” or something similar, use whatever solution you find to build your email the way you want it to look and then copy that HTML code into Monday. In short, major pain in the arse.

To make matters worse, you can’t customise these HTML emails automatically. So, even if you use a free HTML email builder, copy the HTML code into Monday and send a bulk HTML email, you can’t personalise it in any way – not even to say “Hi Steve”. (Bummer).

On top of this, HTML emails aren’t great for deliverability.  Plus, HTML emails are associated with newsletters and spam in people’s minds.

My approach?  Just use plain text emails.  Seems more like a genuine email written by a real person, better deliverability and no more HTML email editing challenges.
