Monday Sales CRM All New Features Walk Through 2 May 2024

Good morning peoples! I have just gotten up at the crack of dawn (okay, maybe not quite, but 3am is still pretty darn early!) to watch the zoom call announcing all the latest and greatest features for Monday Sales CRM. And let me tell you, it was totally worth sacrificing some beauty sleep for!

Mandatory Fields (aka Item Creation Form)

First up, we have what they called "mandatory fields" but it's actually part of a feature called the "item creation form". You can find this by going to any board, clicking on the three little dots at the top right (they'll say "options" if you hover over them), and then going down to settings.

If you haven't enabled it yet, just click "enable item creation form" and voila! From now on, whenever you go to create a new item, it'll pop up a mini Monday work form specifically for that item.

The cool part? You can edit this form just like a regular work form and even make certain fields required. So say goodbye to incomplete items!

Enterprise-Only Feature: Setting Label Conditions

Now, this next one is an enterprise-only feature that they mentioned but didn't demo. Basically, it lets you set conditions for certain columns based on other columns being filled out.

For example, maybe you don't want anyone changing a status column to "qualified" unless the name, email, and phone columns have all been filled in first. Super handy for keeping your data clean and consistent!

Click-to-Email in Contacts Board

Moving on to the contacts board, we've got an awesome update for desktop users. Now, when you click on an email in the email column, it'll open up an email composer window right then and there!

No more having to open up a separate email and activities view first. Plus, you can use templates or even the AI email generator to whip up that perfect message in no time.

"It just makes things a lot more efficient." - Me, very excited about this feature

Deal Pipeline Dollar Totals

In the pipeline view for deals, you'll now see a dollar total for each stage. So if you've got multiple deals in the "discovery" phase, for instance, it'll add up the dollar amounts and display the total right there.

Email Click Tracking & Pinning

Over in the emails and activities view, there's a new "clicked" label in addition to "seen" for any emails you've sent that contained a link. That way, you can tell if your recipient actually clicked through or not.

You can also now pin important items to the top of your timeline so they don't get lost in the shuffle. Just click "pin to top" and it'll stick right up there.

New Email & Activity Automations

There's some pretty nifty new automation recipes for emails and activities, but here's a little tip - you might not see all of them if you just search in the main automation center.

Instead, go into your emails and activities view and click on the little robot icon to see what recipes are available. A couple handy ones they mentioned:

  • When an activity email is created, set the date to today

  • When a button is clicked, create an activity of a certain type (which you can customize!)

Calendar Integrations

If you've got Google Calendar or Outlook Calendar integrated with Monday, any events you create with invitees will now show up automatically in your emails and activities timeline.

You'll see a preview with info like attendees, duration, which Monday account it's linked to, and the event description. Plus, you can pin it to the top if it's extra important!

Native Calling with Twilio

This one's pretty exciting - native calling is now available using Twilio! There's still some questions around exactly how it works, but here's what I know so far:

  • It's currently free to use, but that's likely just an introductory thing. Since it runs on Twilio, there will probably be some usage fees down the line based on their pricing.

  • The phone number that shows up will depend on some factors like your country's regulations and what kind of Twilio number you have.

    • For example, in New Zealand, Twilio calls tend to show up as coming from a random 4-digit number for texts or a landline from a different region for calls.

  • You may need to actually port your number to Twilio for calls/texts to show up as coming from your own number, and there's likely some restrictions around that. Definitely something to look into more!

Account Enrichment

This is a super handy feature for filling out account info automatically using data from Crunchbase.

Basically, you just type in a company domain and Monday will pull in a bunch of additional details like:

  • Headquarters location

  • Description

  • Industry tags

  • Number of employees

  • And more!

It looks like it works off email domain too, so if you enter someone's email address, it'll try to enrich the data based on that.

You get 1,000 free enrichments to start, but it's a "use 'em and lose 'em" situation - after that, you'll need to pony up. Pretty standard freemium model!

Improved Mass Emailing

The ability to send mass emails to up to 2,000 contacts per day has been around for a bit, but it's gotten some upgrades:

  • Your mass emails can be in HTML format now for a little extra pizazz. The catch? There's no HTML email composer in Monday, so you'll need to use a third-party tool, grab the code, and paste it in.

    • Honestly, unless you really need that fancy formatting, I'd suggest sticking with plain text. HTML emails can sometimes look like generic newsletters and end up ignored or stuck in spam filters more often. Just one marketer's two cents!

  • There's a handy "test email" feature to make sure everything looks good before you hit send.

  • You can also get desktop and mobile previews to check your formatting.

  • After sending, you can track performance and analytics for each mass email batch from a dedicated view.

Improved Import Experience

If you've ever imported data into Monday, you know it can be a bit of a headache making sure all the columns match up. But no more!

Now, when you go to import a CSV or Excel file, you'll see a preview of your spreadsheet data and which Monday columns it's mapped to.

You can click to change the column mapping right from this view. And as an added bonus, if there are any columns in your import file that don't exist in your Monday board yet, it'll create them automatically. Yay for no more back-and-forth!

Oh, and it'll also flag any duplicate data and give you the option to skip or replace it. The future is now, my friends.

Coming Soon: Item View Dashboards

Okay, this one's not out yet, but it sounds like it'll be here within about a month, so I'm pretty stoked.

Basically, you'll be able to add dashboard-style widgets right inside an item view to display data specific to that item. Think mini charts, progress meters, or whatever other snazzy visuals your heart desires!

Email Sequences & Quote/Invoice Updates

A couple other goodies to look forward to later this year:

  • Email sequences will let you set up automatic follow-up emails based on whether someone has replied or not, or if they've opened but not responded after X days.

    • This will be a total game-changer for sales follow-up! The initial email mentioned it would likely allow for personalization based on column values, just like current Monday emails... fingers crossed!

  • The quotes and invoices app is also getting some updates, including new reporting capabilities, automated invoice sending, and maybe even import functionality? They were a little vague on the details, but it's on the roadmap!

Parting Thoughts

Phew, that was a lot to cover! Hopefully this quick walkthrough gives you a taste of all the exciting updates coming to Monday Sales CRM.

Personally, I'm pretty much sold on making the switch from Work Management. The only weird catch is that not all accounts have access to standalone pricing yet, so you might need to keep Work Management for now and just add on Sales CRM as an additional cost.

But hey, you could always start moving your stuff over anyway and then just ditch Work Management later once the solo option opens up. Or just enjoy the best of both worlds, who am I to judge?

Either way, I've got a feeling it's gonna be a game-changer. Especially once all those shiny new features are released into the wild!

Let me know in the comments what you're most excited about or if you have any other questions about how it all works. I'm always happy to geek out about Monday (as if that wasn't already abundantly clear from this post, ha!).

Until next time, happy CRM-ing!
